Writing Good Content

Closely related to good content is fresh content. By adding new content regularly, you give visitors a reason to come back. Search engine robots will also visit your site more often once they notice that you update regularly, which means that any new content you add will be indexed quicker.
If you write your own content, you'll want to make sure that it passes through the hands of a skilled copywriter before going online. Web pages that rank at the top of Google have only one thing clearly in common - good writing. Research demonstrates that:
- Web users generally prefer writing that is concise, easy to scan, and objective (rather than promotional) in style.
- Frequent updating of content on key pages is done at least once a week and no less than every few weeks.
- Page titles are simple, yet descriptive and relevant.
- Pages contain few or no spelling and grammar errors: content is factually and grammatically correct.
- Content is informative yet language is friendly, informal, and jargon free.
- Content is not over-optimized, it is written for humans as well as search engine spiders.
- Paragraphs are primarily brief (1-4 sentences) with few or no long blocks of text.
- Lists, both bulleted and numbered form comprise a large part of the text.
- Sentence length is mostly brief (10 words or fewer) with medium-length and long sentences sprinkled throughout the text rather than clumped together.
